Everything a coach juggles

Every feature in Game Day

Rosters, RSVPs, lineups, spares, scores, money and messaging — the six jobs of running a rec team, in one place instead of a group chat, a spreadsheet and a payment app.

Roster & availability

One-tap RSVPs that actually get answered

Every game sends a reminder email with I'm In and I'm Out buttons that work without a login, an app install or a password reset. Players who ignore it get automatic nudges — aimed only at the people who haven't replied, so nobody gets spammed for being organized.

Coaches see a live count of who's in, who's out, who's waitlisted and who hasn't answered, and can mark players in or out themselves when someone texts instead of tapping.

Caps, waitlists and overflow

Set a maximum roster per game. Late check-ins land on an ordered waitlist and get promoted automatically when someone drops. Overflow lockouts stop full-timers from claiming spots after the spare invites have gone out.

Full-timers, spares and pending invites

Everyone on your team has a role: full-time players who RSVP every week, spares who wait for call-ups, and invited players who haven't joined yet. Each gets a different flow — and different reminder rules.

  • Per-player positions, including multi-position eligibility (a defender who can play goal).
  • Per-game position overrides — a skater "playing as goalie" for one night only.
  • Attendance history and streaks on every player, so you know your regulars.
  • A no-show flag for players who check in and don't turn up, with a season counter.

Lineups, scores and stats

Balanced teams, generated automatically

Rate each player once. Before every game, Game Day splits the players who actually checked in into even sides, weighing skill, positions and goalies — and optionally avoiding the same pairings week after week. Teams get emailed at the hour you choose, complete with jersey colours.

If someone drops out after the lineup is set, the balancer re-runs and re-sends. Prefer to pick teams yourself? Manual mode gives you a bulk picker instead.

Scoreboard built for pick-up nights

Track the score at the rink from your phone, including several mini-games in one session — the format most rec nights actually use. Save a result and start the next mini in one tap; rosters carry forward automatically.

Stats worth arguing about

Every player gets a record: games played, wins, losses, ties, goals for and against, plus-minus and win percentage. There's a team leaderboard everyone can see, a goalie section with goals-against per game, and a click-to-expand game log behind every number so nobody has to take the totals on faith.

Money, messaging and the rest

Finance without a side spreadsheet

Collect per-game spare fees or full-season fees by card, and record the cash and e-transfers that arrive the old-fashioned way. Track expenses like ice permits and jerseys — the AI import can even read a permit PDF and file the cost for you — then see exactly what the season costs per player.

Communication that hits the right people

Team chat with attachments, plus email blasts scoped to precisely who you want: full-timers, spares, people who haven't responded, or a hand-picked list — with a preview of exactly who will receive it before you send.

Calendar, drinks duty and the small stuff

  • Calendar feeds that subscribe into Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook and update themselves.
  • Drinks (or beer, or snacks) duty rotation with automatic reminders.
  • Schedule import from a PDF or screenshot via AI extraction.
  • Push notifications on iPhone and Android, plus optional SMS text alerts.
  • Privacy controls for player ratings, and roles for coaches and managers.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do players need to download an app?

No. Game Day works in any browser, and the most common actions — RSVP, accept a spare invite, pay a fee — work straight from an email with no login. iPhone and Android apps exist for players who want chat, stats and notifications on their phone.

Can I run more than one team?

Yes. Switch teams from the sidebar, and when you create a new team you can copy the roster and every setting from a team you already run.

Does it handle multiple seasons?

Yes. Seasons keep schedules, rosters and stats separate, so summer and winter don't blend together. You can view any past season's stats at any time.

What about goalies?

Goalies are treated as their own thing throughout: goalie-specific spare invites, a goalie section in stats with wins, losses and goals-against per game, optional free-to-play fee rules, and settings for teams whose goalies swap ends every mini-game.
